Medals and Exciting Performance: Weighing Up the Success of the Championship

The Italian Speed Skating Championship held in Casette Verdini di Pollenza from 2 to 4 September 2010 (Macerata Province) ended after three exciting days of competitions. The event, during which Italian skaters displayed excellent technical skills, was very successful and attracted a large number of spectators (on average 1500 spectators a day for each competition and peaks of 2000 for the more exciting competitions) and viewers during the live broadcast by RAI SPORT and RAI SPORT 2 on 4 September, well exceeding the expectations of the organisers. Piero Sozzi, Acting Vice President of the Italian Hockey and Skating Federation, confirmed the success of the event. “I saw some very good competitions – said Sozzi after the Championship – and I am sure that the technical staff of the Azzurri team obtained useful indications for the up and coming international competitions. Special acclaim goes to the organisers (A.S.D. Rotellistica Juvenilia of Pollenza, Ed.) who worked in an impeccable manner to prepare this important event: congratulations to them for the way they fitted out the competition tracks and above all well done for having solicited the intervention of the Municipal Administration who authorised the complete restructuring of the centre for the event”. The most appreciated “novelty” of this Championship was in fact the 'Gilda Leoperdi' track which was completed resurfaced with the latest generation of synthetic resins Rollertop formulated by Casali; athletes, technicians and sector experts were very favourably impressed with track judging it to be one of the best at a national and international level.
